Coordinate Geometry

What is it

Coordinate geometry at A-Level extends straight-line work to circles — finding the equation of a circle, its centre and radius, and the properties of tangents and chords.

Why it matters

Circle geometry connects algebra, geometry and graphs in a single topic, and it's a reliable source of exam marks once the standard equation forms and key circle properties are memorised.

Exam tip

Memorise that the tangent to a circle is always perpendicular to the radius at that point — this single fact unlocks most circle geometry problems involving tangents.
