What is it
Data presentation covers summarising and visualising data sets, including calculating measures of location and spread, and interpreting box plots, histograms and cumulative frequency diagrams at a more advanced level than GCSE.
Why it matters
Before any statistical test can be meaningful, the underlying data has to be understood and summarised correctly — this topic is the essential groundwork that every later statistics topic builds on.
Exam tip
When identifying outliers, use the standard rule (more than 1.5 × interquartile range beyond the quartiles) explicitly rather than eyeballing the data — examiners expect the formal method shown, not just the correct-looking answer.
