What is it
Data representation covers how different types of information — numbers, text, images, sound — are all ultimately converted into and stored as binary inside a computer.
Why it matters
This connects the abstract idea of binary to concrete, calculable methods: how an image becomes pixels and bits, how text becomes character codes, how sound becomes sampled numbers.
Exam tip
Be fluent converting between binary, denary and hexadecimal in both directions — this is one of the few GCSE Computer Science topics that's almost pure calculation, so practice until it's fast and automatic.
