What is it
GCSE Python programming builds on the KS3 introduction with more advanced structures — functions, string handling, file operations, and 2D data structures (lists of lists) — used to solve exam-set programming tasks.
Why it matters
This is where programming stops being abstract exercises and starts being genuine problem-solving — the non-exam assessment (NEA) task asks you to build something that actually works, start to finish.
Exam tip
Practice tracing code by hand with functions and parameters specifically — trace tables involving function calls are consistently one of the lowest-scoring question types, purely from losing track of which variable holds what.
