What is it

Time at KS1 covers reading clocks (o'clock, half past, and later quarter past/to), understanding the days of the week, months, and ordering events using words like before, after, and in-between.

Why it matters

Telling the time is one of the most practical, real-world maths skills a child learns early on, and it also quietly builds an understanding of fractions (half past, quarter to) before the word 'fraction' is even introduced.

Exam tip

A real analogue clock — not just a digital display — makes the relationship between the hands and the numbers far easier to grasp than a phone screen ever will.
